COMMERCIAL ENDORSEMENTS For companies requiring staff to fall in line with the current codes of practice

National Powerboat Level 2 certificate

This certificate allows skippers to operate a vessel up to 24 meters from a safe departure point up to 3 miles in day light hours only

Each candidate must have the following:-
SRC/DSC Marine Radio
Sea Survival
Medical ML5/ENG 1 or equivalent
First Aid certificate
Passport size photograph
Fee £32 made payable to RYA

Advance qualification

This qualification is suitable for vessels working commerically from a nominated departure point 20 miles out during daylight hours and during darkness

Pre Exam and qualification: You must have the Yachtmaster Coastal theory certificate and have a minimum seatime 2 years relevant experience including night pilotage.
(As a guide 30 days, 2 days as skipper, 800 miles, 12 night hours)
If you hold an RYA advanced powerboat course completion certificate the seatime is reduced to: 20 days, 2 days as skipper, 400 miles, and 12 night hours

Day Skipper Qualification

This qualification is suitable for vessels working commerically from a nominated departure point 20 miles out during day-light hours

COASTAL SKIPPER

This qualification is suitable for vessels working commercially from a nominated departure point 20 miles out during daylight hours and during the hours of darkness.

Pre Exam and qualification:

Must have a minimum seatime 30 days living on board
2 days as skipper
800 miles – logged within 10 years
12 night hours

If you hold an RYA Coastal Skipper course completion certificate the seatime is reduced to:
20 days living on board, 2 days as skipper, 400 miles, 12 night hours

YACHTMASTER PREPARATION AND EXAM

The Yachtmaster offshore is competent to skipper a motor vessel on any passage during which the yacht is no more than 150 miles from harbour and under 200T. There is no dedicated course for Yachtmaster however, we offer a week where candidates taking the exam at the end can hone up there established skills build up on missing time and prepare satisfactorily to take the exam at the end of their week. They will be expected to fit in with other course attendees from day skipper and coastal skipper level. This allows them to work with novice and experienced crews developing there skipper abilities at the same time. There is the opportunity to build up on missing hours with our mile building weeks and these are covering approx. 400miles at a time.


SEATIME
50 DAYS, 2500 MILES
At least 5 passages over 60 miles - measured from the rhumb line from the port of departure to the destination, acting as skipper for at least two of these passages and including two which have involved overnight passages.
5 days experience as skipper
Half the qualifying seatime must be done in tidal waters
